About Me

Hi, my name is Kieran Nolan. When I was a kid I was into drawing + making things and playing with computers and I’m still doing this today somehow.

I’m a lecturer and researcher with the Section of Creative Media at Dundalk Institute of Technology in Ireland. My teaching and research work includes the areas of learning technologies, HCI, game interface design, tangible interface development, alternate reality games, open source culture and the creative re-appropriation of ‘closed’ digital media platforms and environments. Outside of academia I’ve worked as a designer and consultant in the areas of print, web, e-learning multimedia and video games since the late 1990s.

I hold an MA in Interactive Media (UL, 2002), a Bachelor of Design (Hons) in Digital Media (LYIT, 2001) and a National Diploma in Design Communications (LYIT, 1998). You can check out my MA thesis ‘Bionic Roshambo, hand gesture recognition as an arcade gaming interface’ here. I’m currently studying part time towards an MA in Learning and Teaching.

Anyhows, this site is where I occasionally write about what I’m either reading or working on myself. I have a twitter feed which is updated much more often. If you’re looking for my formal career biography, here it is.
